All the nominees up for a BET Award this year was recently released by the BET Network. The results are not surprising as we've seen who have been dominating the charts. It also seems to highlight actors who were either in Black Panther or essentially most minorities currently hot in the film industry. The award show will air on the BET Network June 24, and will also stream on it's website. With the Billboard awards looming in the horizon, here's a peek a few of the nominations among the healthy variety of categories:
In recent years, the Award show has not been nearly as popular as it was before streaming television and more diversity across other television networks. Cable and network television's general ratings already suffer by the hands of streaming services. The BET awards in particular continue to decline as years pass. Last year, the show attracted under two million viewers which is relatively low in comparison to the past. The awards, however, still came out on the with top viewership, but only specific to cable television.
BET or Black Entertainment Television was originally founded by Robert L. Jackson in 1979 as a network with programming made specifically for African American viewers. Perhaps, due to the increasing amount of diversity and representation of people of color, perhaps the network has done its work and serves simply as an alternative versus necessity for African American viewers. Besides the awards show there were also series available to watch on the network "Hit the Floor" "In Contempt" and "Being Mary Jane" just as an example. Perhaps the networks needs a total revamp.
