It's almost beach body season, but I can hear your groans now, "That's a few months away, I have plenty of time," you say as you continue munching on your Lay's Oven Baked Chips, sipping your Diet Coke, and scrolling through your Netflix queue for your next binge. And my rebuttal for that is there is no better time than now. before you retort about not having time and how your too busy or broke to go out and get a gym membership, let me tell you that you can work out just about anywhere and even in small increments of about ten minutes. So, hopefully by the time you finish this article you will have been armed with the knowledge to go out there and get your beach bod.
1) Find a Gym
"Wait a minute," I hear you saying. "What happened to not needing a gym?" I standby what I said earlier when I mentioned not needing a gym to get in shape, however this is a beginner guide for those who have no clue where to start and is intended to help them find their way. The gym is the best place to work out I feel as it has tons of equipment for your disposal, as well offering a ton of trainers who can assist you if you need help. Locate your local gym, albeit a Planet Fitness, a 24 Hour fitness, or a small owned one, whichever suits your needs. When it comes to looking at pricing for gyms just know that most will charge an enrollment fee which varies from gym to gym and a monthly membership fee that could range from about $20 to $40 along with whatever annual fee they choose to tack on.
2) Get a fitness program
Before you head to the gym and find yourself standing in the corner watching everyone else work on their gains. I think that it's highly important that you come up with some sort of workout routine. This way your not stuck using the ab machine for the entirety of your workout session because you came unprepared. Find a trainer and ask if they create fitness packets. This will cost a little bit of dough, but it ranges from trainer to trainer and shouldn't cost you more than $50. It may seem like a lot especially with the price you paid to get into the gym but it's well worth the purchase as the trainer can assess where you are as well as give you a day to day guide as to what you should be doing. But if you feel like $50 is too steep then there are tons of free programs on the internet that can give you and idea of where to start.
3) Workout with a few friends
Now that you found a gym, got your fitness program, you can officially start working out, but if you still feel uncomfortable going to the gym by yourself then find a few friends to go with you. Working out with friends is a way for each of you to hold the other accountable. Plus this opens the door for carpooling. A win-win!
4) Healthy= Wealthy
Now that you found your gym, a regimen, and a few friends to work out with and have already started going to the gym regularly, it's time to talk about eating healthy. That's right!! No more diet coke and Cheetos! If you truly want that dream bod you need to eat better. You can ask your trainer about the specifics of nutrition and the things to avoid, but for now lets just go over the basics. It's always suggested that you eat a majority of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains with your meals , along with a small portion of meats, preferably baked chicken or fish as those are the healthier of the meats. As always make sure to eat a hearty breakfast in the morning to kick your metabolism into gear. Make sure to stay hydrated as well by drinking a decent amount of water.
Now after all that hard work and dedication you are now ready to flex your muscles and attract the envy of every out of shape person on the beach. This is just a basic guide for beginners, but further down the line we'll go over exercises that you can do in your living room, the types of foods to avoid, and the different protein shakes to include into your workout. But for now just get out there and get to work on your dream body!
