Glorious Star Orbit Fem Family, aka Good morning, we all want to be represented. All of us want to be heard and understood. One of the best things about movie Black Panther, other than being amazingly written, having a stellar cast, soundtrack and gorgeous shots, is the social impact it has on, not only the black community worldwide, people of color. However, the fight is not over. We still need to fight for inclusion and representation for everyone. From women, Asian, Latinx, LGBTQ and indigenous, actors, producers, writers, musicians, animators and directors.
So we should celebrate the diversity that breaks past the barrier in the media industry. From Blockbusters, to short films. Last year HBO started a short film competition for Asian and Pacific Islander filmmakers.
Themes such as identity, belonging and culture through the Asian and Pacific Islander lens. This week the finalists were announced.
Finalists are as follows : Feng- I Fiona Roan, whose "Jiejie" talks about a single immigrant mother raising her two girls in Los Angles in the 90's, Maritte Go, her film, Remittance was inspired by her immigrant family, her film is about A Filipino cruise worker who receives a call about her son in the hospital and Huay- Bing Law, his film "June" chronicles the experience of a young Chinese woman at her husband's graduation in the 1960's.
