Hey, Femm readers if you’re a Tolkien fan then I’m here to give you the scoop to the Amazon Lord of the Rings tv series. I know, I know, some of you are probably skeptical about the show and wish they would be accurate to the books or just leave the books alone but hey, it could be a seriously intriguing series. Besides I for one am excited to see what Middle Earth will look like from someone else’s imagination. One of the only things known is that Amazon studios paid a $250 million-dollar contract with the author’s estate to make the series. As far as when it comes out, well there’s not a release date yet. They signed the contract back in 2017 so it’ll be a while before they have an air date, let alone a trailer for the series.
I mean it’ll take a couple of years to film the series if they want to do Middle Earth any justice. All that’s known about the series is that it will focus on the time between Bilbo’s journey with the dwarves and Frodo’s journey with the fellowship. No one has been cast yet and there’s still no title. Sir Ian McKellen was asked about the series on the Graham Norton show. Norton asked him what it would be like to have another Gandalf around to which McKellen replied, “What do you mean, another Gandalf? I haven’t said yes because I haven’t been asked. But are you suggesting that someone else is going to play it? Gandalf is over 7000 years old, so I’m not too old.” I for one really hope that they do ask him to be Gandalf.
No one else could ever replace him in my book. I’m personally nervous that they’ll find someone else to play Aragon. I could not even imagine anyone but Viggo Mortensen playing the iconic role. Hopefully, the series will focus on new characters but still have the aid of Gandalf. I only say this because it will be hard to see new actors playing classic characters. I also want to hear Stephen Colbert’s opinion on the series as well since he’s practically the king of the Tolkien fan club. Well, that’s all for this post. ‘til next time.
