As I was scrolling through Netflix, yet again, I noticed they recently added the comedy gem I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry. This film was released in 2007 and followed the story of two firefighter friends Chuck Levine (Adam Sandler) and Larry Valentine (Kevin James) who end up getting married. Throughout the movie they go through all types of shenanigans just to prove their marriage is real to the insurance company. While watching the movie, it got me thinking about Adam Sandler. He is a gem to society in my opinion and he doesn't too often get the recognition he deserves. He was even thought to be one of the worst actors alive a few years ago.
In my opinion Sandler is a comedic genius and has not only starred in many great films, but has produced a great amount of films as well. Most of his films I've watched at least 20 times and still can laugh at them like it's the first. Starting his career with a few episodes on The Cosby Show, he eventually got the role as a cast mate on Saturday Night Live. After 5 years there he began to expand his career by writing and producing films.
His first writing project would go on to be one of his top films, Billy Madison, which was released in 1995. The following year he went on to write another film that he also starred in Happy Gilmore. In 1999, he created his own production company Happy Madison Production. The first film he produced under his company was Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, which stared his fellow Saturday Night Live cast mate Rob Schneider. He went on to write and produce many other comedy favorites such as: Little Nicky (2000), The Hot Chick (2002), The Longest Yard (2005), Grown Ups (2010), That's My Boy (2012) and many others.
Although 3 of his films have been criticized as the worst film ever made, I believe we should cherish Adam Sandler. If it weren't for him we wouldn't have as many comedy gems that we have. Most of his films are best when you need a good laugh or just need something great to watch. None of his films could ever been considered the worst to me. Adam Sandler is comedic gold.
