Actor Josh Brolin is on fire for this blockbuster season. He’s already been in two Marvel hero movies with his role as the mad titan Thanos in Avengers Infinity Wars and bad guy Cable in Deadpool 2. Which will be both cinematic universes he’ll return to in a future sequel. But that’s not his last stop on his 2018 blockbuster roundup. Brolin has another film that will be in theaters this June 29th and the title of the film is Sicario: Day of the Soldado.
This film focuses on the story of the drug war on the US/Mexico border that’s only gotten worse after Mexican cartels begin to sneak terrorists across the US border. To help stop this from escalating any further Brolin’s character Matt Graver teams up with the merc Alejandro Gillick that’s being played by Brolin’s Marvel co-star Benicio Del Toro. Toro himself played the character known as The Collector in three Marvel films and was recently in Star Wars episode 8 as the codebreaker. This film is actually a sequel to the film Sicario that came out in 2015.
Brolin and Toro starred in that film as well along with Emily Blunt. The first filmed focused on Blunt’s character goes on a mission to eradicate a cartel group that was responsible for setting off a bomb that killed members on her FBI team. This film made over 12 million dollars on opening weekend in the US and over 84 million worldwide. If this movie does fantastic at the box officer, like Brolin’s other two films, it wouldn’t surprise me if he becomes one of the highest paid actors of 2018. Much like Robert Downey Jr. during 2011/2012 with his roles in Avengers, Sherlock Holmes and the Game of Shadows, and Iron Man 3.
