Is anyone else super excited that Incredibles II will finally be coming out this June? I know I am. How could you not have a sequel to the first one especially after that ending? Just to recap the first film focuses on the Parr family, who are secretly heroes, trying to live a normal life. The Dad, Bob, was missing the good old days of when super heroes stopped villains and saved lives before the government forced them to stay hidden. Not really a shocker for all my X-Men fans out there. This all changes when Bob notices a lot of his old hero friends have gone missing. When a mysterious woman hires Bob to do a mission for her he agrees only to wind up in danger with the ex-fan boy Buddy, aka Syndrome and his killer robot. It’s up to his super powered family and his friend Frozone to save the day. The movie ended with the Parr’s becoming closer as a family, Jack-Jack obtaining his powers, and about taking on the new villain the Underminer.
The Parr family includes Helen aka, Elastigirl, Bob aka Mr. Incredible, Dash, Jack-Jack, and Violet. Elastigirl has the power to stretch her body like an unbreakable rubber band; much like the hero Mr. Fantastic. Dash is like the Flash with his powers of super speed, agility, and reflexes. Violet has the powers to turn invisible and can create force fields; like the Invisible Woman. Mr. Incredible just has super strength and Frozone, Lucius, can freeze the water in the air around him to create ice or snow appear out of nowhere. No, he’s not like Elsa he’s more like Ice-Man.
This new movie focuses on Bob raising his son Jack-Jack and dealing with his new uncontrollable powers while Elastigirl is off on a mission to save the world. See supers are still illegal in the government’s eyes. Surprise, surprise. I mean it’s not like the X-men or Civil War fans didn’t see that one coming from a mile away. Probably because every time you have a super hero you’ll have a super villain and then a fight will break out ruining the city which someone has to pay for. However, once the word gets out there are supers once again a man who has his own private company reaches out to Elastigirl to run missions for him. He reminds me more of a Justin Hammer than a Tony Stark if you’ve seen the Winter Olympic tv spot. Bob’s a bit upset that he wasn’t called on the mission himself or that he can’t even go with his wife. Now Bob must face his new role of being a stay at home Dad.
Bob is ecstatic that his youngest son finally has powers but since he’s only a baby he has no clue how to use them. If you’ve seen the short film, Jack-Jack Attack, you know the kind of havoc he can accidentally create. Jack-Jack has about every power in the book ranging from but not limited to heat vision, laser vision, teleporting, walking through walls, becoming like the Human Torch, becoming metal like Colossus, turning into a weird pink gremlin thing, float, have lightning powers like Thor, and cling to walls like Spider-Man. No doubt Bob will have his hands full raising the young hero to control his powers. Even though he helped his other two kids when their powers came about. Although this time might be more challenging since he won’t have his wife to help him. He also must face the challenges of being the head car giver now like cooking, cleaning, helping with homework, and dealing with horrible Jack-Jack tantrums.
I hope they explain how there are all these supers in this fictional world. That’s one thing that hasn’t been explained. It’ll also be interesting to see how Helen changes once she takes on the hero role again. At the beginning of the first film they interviewed the heroes and asked about them wanting to settle down. Helen was pretty much against it. But she did fall in love and decided to have a family. It’ll be interesting to see if becoming a solo hero again makes her want to keep being independent or if they’ll do the typical I feel guilty for leaving my family and return to her care giver role. If I had to guess it’ll be Bob releasing how being a parent is just as hard and rewarding as being a hero and Helen telling the tycoon that her family comes first so either he has them as a team or no deal. We’ll just have to wait and see when it comes out this June.
