Hey Femm readers, who here is a fan of Sherlock Holmes? Whether you’re a fan of Arthur Conan Doyle’s, of Basil Rathbone’s, Christopher Lee’s, Robert Downey Jr.’s, or even the popular Benedict Cumberbatch’s rendition of the role, Holmes has always had a passionate fan base and world renown reputation. There have been several films and TV show adaptions of the classic novel series. The most popular would Robert’s, Benedict’s, and Basil’s; while the least favorite (and this is according to me and most of the fandom) is Elementary. They’ve had old Sherlocks, kid Sherlocks, cartoon Sherlocks, historical Sherlocks, modern Sherlocks, and even Disney created a mouse Sherlock. And now thanks to MGM and Paramount Pictures we have another Sherlock in the collection. That’s right I’m talking about Sherlock Gnomes.

In this upcoming sequel to Gnomeo and Juliet, we will have Sherlock as a gnome. Gnomes will be voiced by Johnny-Depp while Watson is voiced by Chiwetel Ejiofor. Other voice actors include James McAvoy as Gnomeo and Emily Blunt as Juliet. The first film was a remake of Shakespeare’s love tragedy, however if you’ve seen the film it’s not really a tragedy at all. By the way, if you haven’t seen the first film you should because it’s a great heartwarming twist to a classic. Also, I just wanted to warn you that there will be spoilers mentioned in this post so be forewarned. In this version of the story, the two main characters and feuding families just so happen to be garden gnomes. The feud is between Ms. Montague’s blue garden and Mr. Capulet’s red garden; thus, the blues hate the reds and vice versa. The creators were mainly aiming for a younger audience with this adaption in the film to teach them that other people’s hate can destroy someone else’s love and happiness and they also view the whole tragic death to be rubbish.
Now in this sequel, Juliet and Gnomeo, along with the other gnomes, are being moved into the city of London. The two older characters are now married and moved into a symbolic purple house. Despite going from a grand garden to a shabby one, Gnomeo and Juliet are really happy about their new lives together. That is until some of the gnomes go missing. This, of course, draws the attention of Sherlock Gnomes and his associate Watson. Of course, when Sherlock shows up on scene he has his typical arrogant I-know-more-than-you-do attitude with only Watson to keep him in line. In the trailer, Gnomes explains that he’s the sworn protector of garden gnomes and will help to find the missing gnomes.
Juliet and Gnomeo decide to go with Sherlock and Watson to find their friends and their parents who were taken as well. It’s not shown in the trailer but as an experienced Sherlock fan, I have a good hunch that Gnomes wasn’t up to the idea of those two following him and Watson around. I mean that would be like Anderson following Sherlock on the BBC show; so not going to happen. Anyway, in the trailer, it shows the group in a Chinese shop where the cat figurines attack them. This apparently causes Gnomeo to be captured. I say apparently because it doesn’t fulling show how Gnomeo gets captured. It just shows Gnomeo with the other captured Gnomes hearing how they would be smashed soon and this scene was shown right after the cat attack. The film looks like it will be filled with good humor and adventure. I personally want to know if the villain will be a gnome Moriarty or another Sherlock villain. Who knows it could even be an original villain. The film comes out in theaters on March 23rd. Hope you guys enjoyed this blog. ‘til next time.
