by Cayce McCarthy. Arts and Entertainment blogger. Firefly actor, Nathan Fillion, has a new series coming to ABC this fall. His new show, The Rookie, follows a man, John Nolan, who appears to be having a mid-life crisis after getting divorced from his wife. One day while waiting in line at the bank Nolan and others are threatened to get on the ground by robbers. Nolan begins to go down when he sees an employee trying to hit the alarm button under the desk and decides to get back up and distract the robbers by talking to them. This act of bravery leads Nolan to move away from his small town to live his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer for the Los Angeles Police Department.
The air date for this new show hasn’t been released yet, but the pilot trailer has. This isn’t Fillion’s first crime show either. So, despite the show being called, The Rookie, Fillion definitely isn’t a rookie when it comes to starring in a crime series. His first crime series was Castle that aired on ABC from 2009 to 2016. However, Castle is more of a crime drama rather than what appears to be a more light-hearted and humorous crime theme of his new show. Fillion has always been a great actor ever since Firefly but it’ll be interesting what he brings to the table in this new series.
