Last night’s MTV Movie and TV Awards was a big hit with big-time celebrity wins, real-life heroes being recognized for their bravery, and healthy amount of comedic jabs. Girls Trip actress, Tiffany Haddish, hosted the show. She happens to the be the first black woman to fill the role. A lot of films were up for nominations like Love, Simon, the Quiet Place, and of course Marvel’s Black Panther; which is the first African-American film to make a billion dollars.
The show went gender-neutral again so, they had no specific category for men or women. This is something they started last year and marked history with Emma Watson and Millie Bobbi Brown both winning general-neutral categories.
Other highlights of the night include the actor Michael B. Jordan’s comedic jab to Roseanne Barr. Jordan was nominated for the Best Villain category and won with his performance of the Black Panther antagonist Eric Killmonger aka the Golden Jaguar. After receiving the award Jordan stated that he was shocked he won because he was sure Roseanne had that in the bag. Another win went to the Black Panther family when Chadwick Boseman won the Best Hero category for his performance of T’Challa. However, Boseman inspired the audience when he gave his golden popcorn to James Shaw Jr., the man Boseman called a real-life hero. Shaw Jr. was the man who prevented the Waffle House shooting in Antioch, Tennessee last month.
