A few days ago Netflix released the new film, The Kissing Booth. The romantic comedy was based on the book written by Beth Reekles and has the same title. Rising stars such as Joel Courtney who portrays Lee Flynn and Jacob Elordi who portrays Noah Flynn were apart of the cast of this teen film. They did a wonderful job with their roles, but this film in my opinion didn't do them much justice.
The film followed best friends Lee Flynn and Elle Evans (who is played by Joey King) as they try to make it through high school together. The sweet story line was simple but had some pretty good jokes within the script. Eventually Elle and Lee's friendship hits a bump in the road when it is realized that Elle has a crush on Lee's older brother, Noah.
Director Vince Marcello did a great job with the production of the film. One thing that could have been better within the film was the character connection between the cast. I feel like the thought of the two being best friends could have been better, while remaining natural. I also believe that the story of the crush that Elle had on Noah could have been played out differently and better. The connection between the two was also off putting in a way.
Although Joey King isn't exactly new to the film industry, she still has to take the chances to perfect her craft. When starting young in the game, you gain more opportunities to improve. Starring in films such as Ramona and Beezus (2010), The Conjuring (2013), and Wish Upon (2017) King has been getting cast in some big films over the years. Although I have mixed feelings about the film, it is definitely a great film to watch on a family movie night. Maybe the trailer will interest you more than my opinions on it.
