I'm back again with this week's rising star that everyone should be on the look out for, Letitia Wright. A few people may already have her on their radar because from the beginning of her career she's been doing pretty big things. I still think she is a rising star because she's been in the game since 2011 and didn't really get noticed until around 2015-2017. She was born in Guyana but at a young age her family relocated to London. She has now touched the hearts of millions of Americans, especially the little ones that look like her.
Wright began her career after being she was inspired by Keke Palmer's performance in Akeelah and the Bee. She start trying to get her career started by searching for different agents and eventually landed her first role in 2011 on Holby City. This series aired in the United Kingdom and has been on air since 1999. The British medical drama received close to 6 million viewers and still receives high ratings now. As for a start I believe that was a pretty good small role. After that she did a series of other small roles on British television until her big role in the series that many people have been binge watching on Netflix, Black Mirror. In 2017 she starred in the sixth episode of the fourth season and her performance was outstanding.
Following her role in Black Mirror, she starred in one of the biggest films so far in 2018 Black Panther. This film not only broke box offices, but was in countless amount of headlines for the many barriers it was breaking within the film industry. As many have been saying and showing, this one was for the culture. This black film had a black director and a predominately black cast and it really made the community feel like we got something to celebrate in film. The films budget was around $210 million and within the first four days it went over the initially budget and eventually hit $1,203 billion.
I believe she has big things ahead of her because she is only 24. I would love to see her in a full length psychological thriller or maybe even a horror flick. She has some great talent though as a young black artist, so keep your eyes out for her. You go Letitia Wright! Sprinkling your black girl magic all over the place. :)
