Disney has recently released its first full-length trailer for their new live-action Dumbo film. Instead of telling the story of Dumbo through the animal’s point of view the story is being told through a family who works for the circus. The Farrier family takes care of the animals at the circus and soon help baby Dumbo adjust to his new surroundings. Farrier’s two kids love working with the animals and are seen playing with Dumbo by showing their little mouse circus where the classic character Timothy Mouse appears, however, it’s not known at this time if Timothy only appears in one scene or if he’ll have a bigger part in this film. While playing with Dumbo the little elephant accidentally sucks a feather up his trunk causing him to sneeze.
When he sneezes he causes himself to fly before the children’s eyes. In the trailer, it appears that the children convince the circus to put Dumbo in the act and prove that he can fly. The circus hasn’t been very successful in a while so the ring master Max Medici played by Danny DeVito decides to give it a shot. When it is discovered that Dumbo can fly a man named V. A. Vandevere decides to take over the circus and Dumbo’s show. At first, the family is happy that the circus won’t struggle anymore until Dumbo’s mother is taken from him and they discover even more dark secrets that they fight to bring into the light.
They decide to get Dumbo’s mother back and to end what’s being done to Dumbo. This film was created by Tim Burton. The film itself won’t be out until 2019 and so far there are only two trailers for the film as of right now. Dumbo has always been a Walt Disney classic, so it’ll be interesting to see this new re-telling of the story. I’m just glad that they hinted at the “magic” feather, Timothy Mouse, and kept the scene between Dumbo and his Mom when he visits her in the small cage.
