There’s a movie coming out this March 22nd called Hotel Mumbai that’s based off the 2008 terrorist attack on the Taj Hotel in Mumbai, India. The famed hotel fell under terrorist attack where the hotel staff risked their lives to keep all guests in the hotel safe. Not only did they have to protect their guests, but they had to make sacrifices to protect themselves and their families. This film stars Dev Patel, Armie Hammer, Nazanin Boniadi, Anupam Kher, and Jason Isaacs. The film mainly follows the point of view of the hotel chef Hemant Oberoi played by Kher and a waiter played by Patel.
Two of these guests are a couple staying in the hotel that has to make some difficult decisions to protect their newborn child. This terrorist attack took place on November 26th in 2008 and lasted until November 29th. It was ten Pakistani men that were a part of the Lashkar-e-Tayyiba terrorist group that attacked the hotel a shot down 164 people. The group had traveled from Karachi, Pakistan, to Mumbai by boat where they hijacked a fishing boat and killed the crew. When they made it to the city they hijacked different cars and split into three groups to carry out their attacks. They attacked different places throughout their movement where they killed people at a train station, café, another hotel, and the Taj Hotel where they held a four-day siege.
