Great news Studio Ghibli fans! Creator Hayao Miyazaki will be returning to make new films and expand the studio with his son. That’s right the beloved Miyazaki has returned from retirement to create more content for the studio. This isn’t the first time Miyazaki has done this either. Over the years there have been times when Miyazaki was going to retire but put it off while he wanted to create certain films. For has been retired for some time but now it seems that he has more ideas he wants to create and this time he’ll be doing them with his son.
Ghibli is looking to expand their film list and will be getting aid from their old top director. This news was discovered by fans who follow Vincent Maraval on Twitter. Maraval is head of the production company Wild Branch and he has worked with Miyazaki on several projects in the past. As of right now, Maraval has reported on Twitter that Miyazaki and his son are already working on two new films. Interestingly enough Ghibli hasn’t come out to announce anything on these two new films however, they are working with Miyazaki on a new film which Miyazaki came out of retirement to do.
But it’s not known of this movie is one of the two that Maraval is talking about or if the father and son films are two separate projects altogether. Also, the studio is working with their other top director Isao Takahata on a film called How Do You Live; which is based on a story by Yoshino Genzaburo. In the story, a middle school boy exchanges letters with his Uncle where they discuss things about life and the young boy learns more about his adolescence. But this film will be worked on for a while and Takahata has reported that it won’t come out until about three years. So, we’ll have to be patient and see what the new films will be like.
