See What I did there?
Alright, alright, alright. Ready to settle down tonight with another Oscar-nominated film? If you answered yes, then hats off to you, you are well on your way to seeing them all before the big day taking place on March 4, 2018.
Today I’d like to discuss the film Get Out. Get Out: starring David Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Catherine Keener and Bradley Whitford, (to name a few). Directed and written by Jourdan Peele, is a one of a kind movie with a twist I didn’t really see coming, and unless you've seen a similar movie, you won't see it coming either. I remember sitting in my seat thinking, where is this movie taking me and how will I react? Have I guessed it yet? The answer, yes and no. I’d go into more detail but I don’t want to spoil it for you.
Get Out is about an African American named Chris who has decided to spend the weekend with his girlfriend and her parents on a secluded piece of land where she and her brother grew up. This film takes place in modern day, and everyone is accepting. Once arriving at the house, Chris sees there is another African American working in their yard, he ignores it, until the maid starts to act a bit weird around him, his phone keeps getting unplugged, and a man in a hat keeps telling him to “Get out!”
This film has comedy, jump scares, and emotional moments that can stick with you for a while.
Do I think this film deserves an Oscar? Though the film is good and exceeded my expectations, I would have to say, no. There were better films that were released this year that could hold this spot. With that said, I wish this movie the best of luck in the awards and congrats on your nomination. Hopefully, you’ll have to ‘Get out’ of your seat to snag the trophy.
This movie has been re-released in theaters for a limited time, or you can buy it on Blu-ray and DVD.
