Good news G-kids the studio that created Mary and the Witch’s Flower, Studio Ponco, is coming out with their second film Modest Heroes. This film is actually a collection of short films written and directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, Yoshiyuki Momose, and Akihiko Yamashita. The three shorts are called Kanini & Kanino, Life Ain’t Gonna Lose, and Invisible. Each short will focus on the idea of everyday heroism. Together the three directors and animators got the chance to create dramatic and action-packed sequences within their own fantasy worlds.
This film showcases the talent that the studio has and how far they will go in the future. Yonebayashi was the one who used to be an animator for Studio Ghibli who moved on to create his own animation studio after Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki retired. In fact, Momose and Yamashita were also directors and animators for Ghibli as well. The film will be out in select theaters this January and some theaters will have either the dubbed version or the subbed version. It is not known at this time if the film will later come out on Netflix or not.
