For this edition of Flashback Friday, I took a trip way down memory lane. As I was scrolling through the kids movie section, I came across a movie that was definitely a gem back in 2001. One of the best shows to be released by Nickelodeon had its film debut, which changed many of our lives forever: The animated adventure comedy Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius premiered on December of 2001. The movie being named after the main and most brilliant character of the cast, Jimmy Neutron.
As I watched the film, it honestly made me feel like a complete kid again. Once the theme song was played and I sang it word for word, I knew I was all in. Director John Davis did a great job and had major help from the cast. I was reacting to the movie as if it was my first time watching it. Debi Derryberry brought the main character, Jimmy Neutron, to brainiac life. She is also responsible for many other childhood characters that we loved so much from the 90s tv shows. She had various voice over roles on shows such as: Johnny Bravo (1997), CatDog (1998), Grim and Evil (2001-02), The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius (2002-06) and a lot more. The voices behind Jimmy’s close friends Carl, Sheen, Cindy, and Libby were a part of our childhoods as well.
The voice of Carl Wheezer was done by Rob Paulsen, who has been in many of our childhood favorites. Paulsen is known for his various roles in shows like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987-1995), Bobby’s World (1990-1998), Animaniacs (1993-1998), and even Dexter's Laboratory (1996-2003). Sheen Estevez was the voice of Jeffrey Garcia who has been in the animated films Happy Feet (2006) and Rio (2011). The voice of Cindy Vortex was done by Carolyn Lawrence, who was also the voice of our favorite Bikini Bottom Texan, Sandy Cheeks. The voice of Libby Folfax was done by Crystal Scales, who has done voice overs on shows such as Static Shock (2000-04), As Told By Ginger (2000-01), and Rocket Power (2002).
The film definitely filled my night with nostalgia and great laughs. If you’re looking for something random to watch this is definitely a good choice. The movie will bring back great memories and make you feel young again,at least for an hour and 20 minutes. If this review hasn't inspired to go and watch the film, maybe the theme song will bring back some memories for you.
