Celebrities arrived Met Gala 2018 adorned with jewels and regal clothing in honor of this year's theme: “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”. One’s first thought would probably be to expect everyone to show up in robes and pope-esque headpieces. Crowns and head pieces did, indeed, reign supreme.
Attendees, of course, had difference interpretations of Catholic Imagination: some heavy in crowns, resembling monarchy and grandeur, and others focusing on religion. Obviously there are too many stars to go through looks one by one, but I have congregated a few that caught my eye.
The first artist of note would be Rihanna; she wore wore a custom Margiela mitre and mini-dress to honor the theme. She attended this year as co-host to Anna Wintour, Donatella Versace and Amal Clooney. Solange Knowles rocked a braided halo that is similar to one she’s worn before in her artwork. Madonna walked the carpet in crown and black veil. Crosses made a bold appearance, particularly on Jennifer Lopez’s chest. Cardi B attended her first MET gala in full on pregnancy glow. She too rocked a head piece with her hair blown out to perfection. Reminiscent of Mother Mary. Sarah Jessica Parker showed with blown out hair and a fabulous train possibly a statement as the Queen of Hearts, topped with an intricate crown.
(2 Chainz proposed finally proposed. Congratulations to 2 Chainz and his new fiancé!)
According to Vogue, This year’s exhibition is the largest for Met Gala and is the first time papal vestments have been on display outside of Vatican City. Those pieces however, were displayed in a separate space from “newer” fashions. The space was also reported to be the largest ever.
