Well, it’s official, the tv show Downton Abby is getting its own movie and the original cast will be in the film. The creator of the show, Julian Fellows, will be writing the screenplay and will be one of the film’s producers along with Gareth Neame. It was a bit sad for fans to have to say goodbye to the show after it’s the sixth season ended during Christmas time of 2015. There were rumors that the show was going to become a film and now those rumors have been proven to true, so fans can now rejoice in the news. The film will be directed by Brain Percival who directed the series’ pilot and the films The Book Thief and About A Girl.
For those of you who haven’t seen the show, the basis of the series followed the story of the Crawley family and their servants whom all lived together in an Edwardian style country home during the turn of the 20th century. It was the head of the household, Lord Graham, that watched over his family’s heritage, especially the home of Downton Abby. After the death of his heir aboard the Titanic the family reached out to the distant cousin, Matthew Crawley, to take his place as the new heir. Matthew moved away from Manchester to the estate with his mother who didn’t get along with the countess. Not to mention Graham had to focus on finding a subtle husband to marry his daughter.
Then there’s the head butler who takes charge of all the servants who live their entire life in servants’ rooms who are quite interesting themselves. So, basically the differences and struggles of the pre-Great War class system. The show starred Hugh Bonneville and Dame Maggie Smith. The show received numerous awards and was the most nominated non-U.S. show in the history of the Emmy Awards. The film has already started its production this summer however, it is unknown at this time when the film will be released or what the title will be.
