I don't know about all the other horror fans out there, but in a way I have been waiting for the film that would capture the story of Slender Man. This fictional supernatural character was created on a forum in 2009 as apart of a Photoshop challenge to create paranormal images. Since then the character has caused a large stir and even result in a few attacks by children and teens. The film Slender Man is said to be released in August of this year.
I have been wanting to see how they depict this internet meme on the big screen. I remember reading the initial story of Slender Man when I was young and it was actually pretty creepy, so I hope in the film it really gives me the chills. When word of the film was released in January, there was a lot of criticism from the world and even one of the families from the 2014 Waukesha, Wisconsin tragedy spoke out. There was some speculation that the film would be based on the stabbing but after watching the trailer, I don't believe they have anything to worry about. If you don't remember or don't know the story of the 2 young girls who stabbed another classmate for Slender Man, here's the link: (Girls who tried to find slender man, stabs friend)
It's understandable why the father of the 2014 tragedy would speak out about the making of the film though. I don't think it was fair to say that the film was "popularizing a tragedy" but he definitely has the right to feel that way. I believe the story will more so just follow the fascination behind the character, at least I hope it does. It's a great story and could even make a great film, so I do believe the making of the film would've happened sooner or later.
Let's just hope Sony keeps the film in good taste and releases a film that will be in the ranks of other recent great box office horror films. It definitely has the potential with the fresh talent they have in the film. I hope the films give chills and thrills, do you think it'll be on your must-see list?
