There’s some good news and bad news for the Hocus Pocus fandom. After years and years of begging for a sequel, it appears that fans will finally be given a second movie. That’s right Disney has announced to have a sequel for the beloved occult classic that will either air on their Freeform channel or their new Disney streaming service. Again this is one of the few films people have been begging to have a sequel during this era of remakes, reboots, spin-offs, prequels, and sequels. A rumor about Disney making this sequel has been going around since 2017 and it has finally been confirmed.
David Kirschner, the executive producer of the original film, will be producing the new film and the script is being written by Scarlett Lacey. According to a source, the second film is a reboot/sequel. The new film won’t have original director Kenny Ortega to direct the new film and there will be an entirely new cast for the sequel. Other bad news that goes along with a new cast is that the original Sanderson’s will not be back. Both fans and original actors such as Bette Midler (Winifred Sanderson) is not happy that they’ve decided to not get her back to reprise her old character.
She believes it’s a cheap move thus making for a cheap film. And I agree with that wholeheartedly considering it was the sisters that made the film in the first place. True there are some great actors at the Disneyworld park who play the sisters during their Halloween show but even then no one can beat Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy. Even with this being said nothing about the film has been 100% confirmed other than the fact that they’re making a sequel. Who knows maybe with a big enough outcry from the fans Disney might be smart and get the original sisters back for the film to torment new kids? I’m surprised that they’re not basing the new film after the book sequel that focused on Max’s daughter fighting off the secret 4th Sanderson sister.
