Welcome back Femm readers to another film promo. Today I’ll be promoting the new Jim Carrey film, Dark Crimes; which is the first lead role he's played since 2014. Carrey will be stepping out of the genre of comedy and taking on a more serious crime thriller role. This isn’t the first film Carrey has done that had a more serious and dramatic role. Other films include Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Truman Show, and The Number 23.
This film focuses on the detective Tadek who comes across a murder of a businessman that has similar characteristics to a murder mystery novel written by a man known as, Kozlow. Tadek suspects that Kozlow is the killer and now he just has to prove it. During his investigation, he soon believes that murder isn’t the only crime Kozlow is guilty of and his investigation becomes worse when he begins to be pursued by unknown suspects. This film is based on the 2008 article, “True Crimes,” by David Grann where his story is set in Poland during the years of 2000 and 2003. The main question is, is it really the author who’s the killer or perhaps an inspired reader; one that the author could even know?
This film reminds me of the Luke Evan’s film, The Raven, where a fan of Edgar Allen Poe’s works uses his murder stories to inspire his own devious crimes. The trailer is out now and let me tell you, this film looks dark, twisted, and intense. It also appears to be intriguing. I for one, will be looking forward to Carrey’s performance of Tadek. The movie is expected May 11th. That’s all for now. ‘til next time. Here’s a link to the trailer below.
