There’s a new national park that’s opened here in the United States. This new park is the Indiana Dunes, National Park. This is the 61st park to be added to the list of national parks in the United States. This new park will be managed by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. The park stretches fifteen miles around the shores of Lake Michigan with 15,000 acres of forest, beaches, prairies, and marshes.
This park gets its name from surrounding dunes where travelers can go sledding during the winter time. Other activities include hiking, maple syrup making, bird watching, and wildlife watching as well. One of the trails that visitors can see birds is along the Great Marsh trail system where they can see ducks, coots, herons, and more. Then, of course, there are plenty of beaches to go to as well. Not mention the over 50 hiking trails where people can hike, snowshoe, or even go cross country skiing.
Camping is also an available activity for vacationers as well. Campers can camp out of the Dunewood Campground where they can go fishing and hike the dunes along the beach. Camping season will be open from April 1st to November 1st. The campsite offers restrooms, showers, and a $25 a night fee. Campers can stay for 14 days within a 30 day period and pets are allowed, however, they need to be kept on a leash, are attended to, or kept in a crate. For more information click here.
