American Idol announced their top three singers: Caleb Hutchinson, Gabby Barrett, and Maddie Poppe. These three will head back to their hometowns to celebrate how far they have come in the competition before competing in the final round similar order of business in the past. Despite letting go of Cade and Michael, we will be seeing them again and the top seven out on tour this summer. But who will become the next Idol winner?
Caleb is 19 years old and has a good country voice, which has been evident this whole season. Caleb is from Dallas, Georgia and has always been a musician. He has a big heart and warming since of humor on the show and this past Sunday he and the other contestants had to sing a Carrie Underwood song and a song as a tribute to their mother. Caleb choice Underwood’s songs, “So Small” and “Stars in Alabama”. It was these two song choices that helped get him in the top 3.
The next contestant to make it to the top three was Gabby Barrett. Barret is 18 years old and is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Barret has a star-studded attitude with vocals as strong as Underwood. During the coaching segment of the show the Idol vet said that Barrett was more talented than she was those thirteen years ago. Barret showed off her confidence and power house voice when she sang “Last Name” and Whitney Houston’s song, “I Have Nothing”.
Idol’s final contestant to make it to the top three was Maddie Poppe. Poppe is 20 years old and is from Clarksville, Iowa. Poppe has an emotional country voice with a bit more twang to it that can move an audience to tears. This was apparent when she sang Underwood’s cover of the Randy Travis song, “I Told You So” and the Beach Boys’ song, “God Only Knows”. When she sang the first song you could see how much emotion that Poppe had in her eyes, making the audience feel her apparent heartache. When she sang the last song she became overwhelmed with emotion and couldn’t finish the final note. The finale will air on the 21st so, good luck you three.
