You’ve probably seen the trailers by now, but the novel, “Red Sparrow”, will soon have a film in theaters on March 2, 2018. Like many “Hunger Games” and “Harry Potter” fans out there, I have always believed the book has a tendency to be better than the film. With Jennifer Lawrence, as Dominika Egorova, I trust Red Sparrow will deliver to debunk my book is better than thou theory.
(Did you miss it? See the trailer here)
In the story of “Red Sparrow” Dominika saw too much during a mission and was given the ultimatum of life as a Russian spy (Sparrow,) or death. Being that Ms. Lawrence is no stranger to portraying life and death situations i.e. Katniss of Hunger Games, I would be shocked to be disappointed during action and stealth scenes in Red Sparrow. Since a “Sparrow” is required to manipulate and seduce, there may be plenty of bare skin is to be expected in the movie. Per “Entertainment Tonight” , Lawrence has revealed she was very comfortable in her bare skin while filming Red Sparrow.
“"Everybody made me feel so comfortable that I probably at a certain point started making everybody else uncomfortable….Because I'd be like 'I don't want the robe.’”
We have seen her work in years past; in a trilogy live action X-men films, Jennifer Lawrence was tasked with having her entire bare body painted in blue as Mystique. For those not familiar with the Marvel character, Mystique, manipulation and seduction was her expertise. She too was a spy, literally morphing or shape-shifting into whomever she pleased. In Red Sparrow, Ms. Lawrence has to metaphorically “morph” into the “missing piece” in the enemy’s life to obtain information.
Should you decide to see the movie, and don’t enjoy Lawrence’s performance, I volunteer as tribute! Red Sparrow is set to be released in theaters March 2, 2018.
