What's up femm fam! The film, A Quiet Place, originally shown at this year's SXSW, will be in theaters in just a few days. The title indicates an ominous feeling, as does the trailer. It is a "what if" situation where a family his "forced to live in silence", or else be hunted and killed by some long fingered creature. The couple, and primary protagonists, Evelyn (Emily Blunt) and Lee (John Krasinski) have children. If you've been around children a day in your life you would know they are almost never quiet and almost always full of energy. In addition to having younger children, it seems impossible they will survive: the wife is pregnant and apparently goes into labor. What pregnant woman do you know that makes no sound during labor and what newborn baby do you know that never cries? It is exciting nonetheless, as we see they family speaks in sign language and walks around barefoot to avoid sounds.
Fun Fact: Sign language on and off set. Child actor Millicent Simmonds
The preview doesn't fully show what the creature will look like, besides the hands, but I expect it to make any viewer's skin crawl.
A few may be able to recall the movie Don't Breathe where a group of people go around robbing houses. They picked a house inhabited by an older blind man who, unbeknownst to the criminals, is ex-military, kind of gross, keeps a turkey baster full of his "swimmers", and was currently holding a woman hostage to have his child. They break into his house, thinking the burgurlary will be easy since the man is blind. The title of the film comes into play where they cannot "breathe" (loudly) or the man will find them and kill them. I thought the film was very well executed, being that a good portion of it had no dialogue, but lots of effective action.
I expect the same of A Quiet Place: it looks to be equally entertaining, but with a sci-fi twist. Even though I have been avoiding spoilers like the plague, I fear the trailer is one that essentially shows the entire movie: all the best parts might be in the trailer. Either way, the film is set to be shown in theaters April 6th.
