Shark Week will celebrate its 30th Finversay July 22 on Discovery Channel . The show will be from the 22nd to the 29th and will air new episodes at 7 p.m. ET/PT. It’s important to note that the new episodes start at seven at night but re-runs will begin at 7a.m. and last all day. Shark Week has been teaching the science behind the shark’s biology, environment, behavior, their ecosystem the importance of their role, and why their conservation is crucial to the environment. Shark Week has also helped to debunk a lot of myths and legends about sharks as well.
Discovery has been doing Shark Week since July 17th, 1988, the longest-running TV cable event. The start of Shark Week was created by the founder of the Discovery company, John Hendricks. It was Hendricks idea that sharks were known as epic predators that both excited and frightened the imagination, which makes them have great ratings. So, they took advantage of August beach time by premiering the show Caged in Fear, which focused on the science behind the creation and testing or motorized shark cages. With only ten episodes that first Shark Week prime time rating for Discovery Channel doubled from the average and the rest is history.
